Visa

Short procedure

Only when you are accepted as a student and in case you applied for a degree programme, after payment of the tuition fee, the international office of Erasmus School of Law will initiate the short procedure for those students who come from visa required countries. Below you will find the documents we need you to return to our postal address so we can apply for your visa.

The deadline for submission is: Exchange students starting per 1st September: 15 June. Exchange students starting per 25th January: 1 November. EMLE students first term: 15 July. EMLE students third term: 15 January.

All documents should be translated into English, French or German by a certified translator. If any of the documents are missing or we receive them after the deadline, we will NOT be able to initiate the short procedure! However if we are able to use the short procedure for you we are confident you will be able to come to Rotterdam in time, in contrast to a regular visa application which can take up to 6 months! Please note that if you have been to the Netherlands in the past, a new visa application (even through the short procedure) will take longer! When your visa is issued, the Dutch embassy in your country will inform you about collecting it. We advise you to ask for a multiple entry (D+C) visa. For this visa you will need to show proof of health insurance at the embassy.

Visa requirements

  • Copies of the pages of your passport which contain personal data, validity details and entry/exit visas of previous travels (with an emphasis to previous travels to the Netherlands!). Your passport should be valid for the entire period of your stay + 3 months thereafter. If you do not have the nationality of the country in which you are residing and you wish to pick up your visa in the country of residence, proof of residency is required by means of a valid residence permit.
  • If granted a scholarship by your home university; a signed letter by your home coordinator confirming the granted scholarship in your name (surname and initials), mentioning your date of birth, the period of the scholarship (from date to date) and the amount granted per month in Euro. The statement should be printed on stationary clearly stating the name and address of the grant provider, and has to be signed by an authorized person.
  • Proof of financial support (original documents!); meaning an official statement or transcript from your bank which is recent (not older than 3 months) and states your financial credit (in Euro!) accessible to you from the Netherlands for the period of your study.
  • A minimum amount per month is required for living expenses by the immigration services;

EXCHANGE STUDENTS: € 685 per month

DEGREE STUDENTS: € 820 per month (€ 9840 for an academic year)

If you are sponsored by parents or others, a transcript from their bank account is required in Euro, accompanied by a standardised financial statement, and a copy of their passport(s).

On a financial declaration/bank transcript from your bank or from your sponsor's bank, the bank account number, the name/logo, address and telephone number of your bank should be indicated clearly! Please note that so-called certificates of deposit in which your savings can not be accessed freely will not be accepted by our Immigrationservices. • Chinese students need to have a valid NESO-certification. Students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau do not need to submit a NESO-certification.
  • A copy of your health and liability insurance policy valid in the Netherlands for the period of your stay. For more information about the coverage we require and how to apply, please check health insurance.
